The machine gun was designed by John Browning in 1910.
A total of 60 000 machine guns were manufactured for the U.S. Army during the First World War. This model subsequently served as a basis for the production of the same in other countries, e.g., in Poland in 1930 —1939 and Norway in 1929 —1940.
They were used by second-line Nazi troops and during counterguerilla operations During the World War II.
A few machine guns used by the former Polish Army were captured as trophies during the Red Army’s campaign in the West Ukraine and Byelorussia in 1939.
They were used by Soviet Militia Divisions during the Battle of Moscow in the fall of 1941 during the Great Patriotic War (1941 — 1945).
